Entitlement to social housing / Wohnberechtigungsschein
Another way for student parents of single parents to find reasonably priced accommodation is by using the official attestation of entitlement to social housing, which can be obtained from the housing benefit office on application. This document enables a tenant to provide evidence that he or she is entitled to live in publicly subsided accommodation (social housing). Accommodation-seekers who do not have German nationality must show their residence permit.
The following income ceilings (allowable annual income) apply to this kind of housing:
| Single person household | € 14,500
| | Two-person household | € 22,000
| | Allowance for each additional person in the household | € 5,000
| | Additional increase for each child | € 650
